IS MONTREAL PREPARED FOR A MAJOR EARTHQUAKE ?

************************************

March 9, 2010

Earthquakes in Haiti, Chile, Turkey, Greece. We live on the same round planet. Whatever happens to one part will surely have an effect on the rest. Tectonic upheaval in one area must shift the earth's crust everywhere to some degree.

Montreal sits on the St. Lawrence Valley paleo-rift fault. Each year, approximately 450 earthquakes occur in eastern Canada. Of this number, perhaps four will exceed magnitude four. But with tectonic activity now so active and strong under this one earth's crust, can we be sure nothing much will happen here?

Is Montreal prepared for a major earthquake?
