    • It would help me and others I know if Americans would take an interest in the plight of crime victims here. In Quebec, so many resources are available in French only and the rest of us have nowhere to turn. Our first line of defence - the local police - are virtually deaf when a person tries to file a complaint - especially if the one bringing the case is a woman and she goes to the station without a man to support her. I have witnessed this first hand on more than one occasion, in my own case and as an advocate for others in Montreal. The police usually manage to find an excuse not to take the report and when they do, the case is declared "closed" within a few days or weeks or it just disappears altogether. Women attempting to report a case - other than a stolen car - are treated like troublesome children. The desk officer will be polite, but the message is clear that your claim is unworthy and you are just there to get attention.

Crime Survivors might be able to broaden its scope and impact by copying reports to the media everywhere in North America. If each participant just sends out five or ten emails, the effect might be startling.

VICTIM POWER !!!! The Internet is the great equalizer. Rich or poor, each of us who has access to the net has the power to move mountains - and those stone walls that shut us out and deny us protection
