There can never be peace while our laws protect criminals and have contempt for victims. But our western laws are designed to ensure that lawyers thrive.
The law makers are lawyers and they create laws that keep lawyers rich and fat, and that means that the criminals win and the victims keep losing - until the victims get so angry that there is revolution - and then the innocent suffer again.
This reminds me of the bible story about Jesus. Those who condemned him were not his fellow Jews. It was the Scribes, the Sanhedrin - in effect - the lawyers.
