MONTREAL'S HISTORICAL THEATRES

On this day in Montreal — Nov. 20, 1993: The lavish, Beaux-Arts-style Rialto Theatre on Parc Avenue is recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada. Originally a cinema, the building was constructed based on the design of the Paris Opera House in 1923.

DOROTHY DAVIS AND VIOLET WALTERS CHILDREN'S THEATRE SCHOOL WAS HOUSED UPSTAIRS IN THE RIALTO THEATRE BUILDING.

ELSEWHERE, THERE WAS THE MONTREAL REPERTORY THEATRE SCHOOL WHERE I STUDIED VOICE AND DICTION, THEATRE ARTS, STAGE MAKE-UP AND HISTORY OF THE THEATRE - WITH ELEANOR STEWART, DOROTHY DANFORD, JEAN DE SAVOIE, GRIFFITH BREWER AND MRS. STEHLE - AND THEN ON TO OPERA WITH THE INTERNATIONAL DIVA, MME. PAULIINE DONALDA. PRECIOUS MEMORIES.
