IS IT AN INSULT TO ANIMALS TO CALL TRUMP A PIG?

Donald Trump reminds Puerto Rico of its 'billions of dollars' of Wall Street debt as satellite image highlights humanitarian crisis.

Donald Trump gave Puerto Rico a sharp reminder of the billions of dollars of debt that it owes to Wall Street on Monday, saying it was in "deep trouble".

The island is battling a humanitarian crisis after being battered by Hurricane Maria last week.

Five days after the Category 4 storm slammed into Puerto Rico, many of the more than 3.4 million U.S. citizens in the territory were still without adequate food, water and fuel.

MYANMAR - PRETENDING GENOCIDE IS NOT GENOCIDE

The Burmese military has committed forced deportation, murder, rape, and persecution against Rohingya Muslims in northern Rakhine State, resulting in countless deaths and mass displacement. The crimes continue and the number of displaced has risen to half a million. #rohingya

Rajuma Begum survived a massacre. She watched Burmese soldiers kill her infant son, before brutally assaulting her and leaving her for dead in a house they set on fire. They also killed her mother, her two sisters, and other relatives. Kutupalong refugee camp, Bangladesh,

BABI YAR - EVIL KNOWS NO LIMITS

76 years ago today the Babi Yar massacre - in which the Nazis slaughtered nearly 34,000 Jewish men, women, & children - began on the outskirts of Kiev.

The German army took Kiev Sept 19 and special SS squads prepared to carry out Hitler's orders to exterminate all Jews and Soviet officials.

Beginning Sept 29, more than 30,000 Jews were marched in small groups to the Babi Yar ravine north of the city, ordered to strip naked, and machine-gunned into the ravine.

Eyewitnesses and other evidence attest to the atrocities at Babi Yar, which became a symbol of Jewish suffering in the Holocaust.

HAVE MARTIANS TAKEN OVER AMERICA?

WHAT KIND OF MADNESS HAS OVERTAKEN AMERICA? MARTIANS IN THE NIGHT? A VIRUS?

THE AMERICANS HAVE ELECTED A LEADER - MAYBE BY HOOK, BUT MORE LIKELY BY CROOK - WHO IS GOING TO MANIPULATE THE MILLIONS OF MILLIONS, BUT HE HAS NOT REVEALED HIS OWN TAX RETURNS.

DID TRUMP EVER FILE A TAX RETURN? DID HE EVER PAY TAXES?

HERR DRUMPH IS ITCHING TO MAKE WAR, BUT HAS HE EVER SERVED IN HIS COUNTRY'S ARMED FORCES OVERSEAS? HAVE HIS SONS SERVED? DID HIS FATHER SERVE?

BUT THE AMERICANS SAY, "GIVE TRUMP A CHANCE".

GERMANY GAVE HITLER A CHANCE, LEST WE HAVE FORGOTTEN.

THE HOLOCAUST DIDN'T START WITH THE OVENS.

IT STARTED WITH LIES.

THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH MILLIONAIRES TO HAVE ELECTED TRUMP. IT IS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT SUPPORT HIM - MILLIONS OF THEM. BUT WHO ARE THOSE SUPPORTERS?

NOTICE THE COMMENTS OF TRUMP SUPPORTERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA. THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO SPELL EVEN THE SIMPLEST WORDS.

YOU WILL SEE MANY TRUMP LOVERS ON THE JERRY SPRINGER SHOW. UNEDUCATED, CRUDE, VULGAR BULLIES WITH MULTI-COLOURED HAIR AND NEAR-NAKED BOTTOMS TEARING AT EACH OTHER'S CLOTHES AND SPEWING FILTH. THEY ARE CHEERING ON A REGIME THAT IS TOSSING THEM INTO THE GARBAGE. IT IS AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY.

IF AMERICA HAS A FUTURE, IT WILL HAVE TO MAKE A GOOD ACADEMIC EDUCATION COMPULSORY.

HOW CAN YOU EXPECT RATIONAL BEHAVIOR FROM A POPULATION WITH SUCH A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE UNEDUCATED AND DISRESPECTFUL - GANGS OF YOUNG PEOPLE WHO HAVE STRONG OPINIONS, BUT ARE NOT EVEN ABLE TO SPELL OR PUT TOGETHER A COGENT SENTENCE - YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE A MENACE ON THE STREETS AND ARMED WITH GUNS AND KNIVES?

HOW CAN REASON PUT RESTRAINTS ON PEOPLE WHO MAKE UP THEIR OWN RULES AND TAKE WHATEVER THEY WANT. AND NOW, WITH DONALD TRUMP IN POWER, THEY HAVE A LEADER THEY CAN CLAIM AS THEIR OWN.

THE DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM VALUES THE VOTE OF THE MOST IGNORANT AND EVIL CITIZEN AS EQUAL TO THE DECENT PERSON.

VIETNAM – AMERICA’S AGENT ORANGE IS STILL CAUSING AGONY

Babies in Vietnam still being born with birth defects due to Agent Orange, despite 40 years since conflict with U.S.

Chemical was sprayed on crops, plants and trees by U.S. military to destroy cover for guerrilla fighters

The dioxin can cause a range of birth defects as well as cancer and reproductive abnormalities

Heartbreaking pictures were captured by British-born photographer Francis Wade on trip to Vietnam

Said he visited the Thi Nghe and Thien Phuoc orphanages to show the devastating effects still being felt

A new series of heartbreaking pictures has revealed even babies 40 years on are suffering the horrific effects of Agent Orange in Vietnam.

Canterbury born Francis Wade captured the distressing images at the Thi Nghe and Thien Phuoc orphanages in Saigon, which are home to children born decades after the war.

Yet despite the conflict ending in 1971, the orphanages are caring for children suffering disabilities thought to be caused by a chemical used by U.S forces, which was sprayed on crops, plants and trees.

This young child, Nguyen Thanh Nhan, aged four suffers from hydrocephalus, or water on the brain, a disease associated with Agent Orange

This little boy cries out after suffering the effects of Agent Orange, which will eventually kill him

Seventeen-year-old Nguyen Canh Ngo in his bed at one of the orphanages. Many of the children here also suffer from acute mental health problems

Many of the children at the Thi Nghe orphanage suffer from deformities such as these and are bed-ridden requiring round-the-clock care

Those caring for the children sometimes tie the children to the beds or tie their hands together to prevent them from injuring themselves

In rural southern Vietnam, where much of the spraying of Agent Orange by US forces in the Vietnam War occurred, families still depend on children to work and create income.

Many of the children end up in the care of the orphanages as their families cannot afford the burden of a disabled child and they are abandoned there.

Mr Wade, a freelance journalist now based in Bangkok, explained: 'The very sad subtext to this all, and the reason why I visited the orphanages, is that many families in Vietnam, particularly in the rural areas that were sprayed with Agent Orange are too poor to carry the burden of a disabled child, and so abandon them at orphanages.

The majority of children at Thi Nghe orphanage in Saigon were abandoned by their parents who could not afford to care for them

The children at the orphanages stay there until they are 17. After that they are then sent to adult care homes

A teenage boy sits in the corner of one of the wards at the Thien Phuoc Orphanage. Mental health is often still stigmatised in Vietnam

'So the families living in areas where there's still heavy contamination have the double curse of being far more likely to produce disabled offspring, and not having the means to care for them.'

Agent Orange is the combination of the code names for Herbicide Orange and Agent LNX, one of the herbicides and defoliants used by the U.S. military as part of its chemical warfare programme, Operation Ranch Hand, during the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1971.

Over the course of 10 years, American forces sprayed nearly 20million gallons of the chemical in Vietnam, Laos and parts of Cambodia in an effort to deprive guerrilla fighters of cover by destroying plants and trees where they could find refuge.

U.S. aircraft sprayed Agent Orange over large areas of the jungle in Vietnam during the war

Scores of people died during the war from 1962 to 1971. Pictured are bodies lying on a road in Southern Vietnam

Children are forced to sleep on metal beds in the orphanage. Many are there because their parents are too young and poor to care for a disabled child

The chemical was manufactured for the U.S. Department of Defense by Monsanto Corporation and Dow Chemical.

It got its name from the colour of the orange-striped 55-gallon barrels in which it was shipped to Asia.

Among the illnesses contracted by people exposed to the dioxin are non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, several varieties of cancer, type 2 diabetes, soft tissue sarcoma, birth defects in children, spina bifida and reproductive abnormalities, to name a few.

SAUDI PRINCES ARE KILLING TEXANS

PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS –
SAUDI ARABIAN OIL REFINERY

DEMOCRACY NOW
SEPTEMBER 26, 2017

AMY GOODMAN: What are you facing in Port Arthur?

HILTON KELLEY: Well, what we're facing in Port Arthur, Texas, number one, is mass evacuations of our renters. We're also facing Superfund sites. We're also facing—

AMY GOODMAN: Explain what Superfund sites are.

HILTON KELLEY: Well, a Superfund site is an area that's been deemed uninhabitable due to contamination of some type of toxin. And most of the time in our area, it's petroleum waste or petroleum material that has been discarded in some shape, form or fashion, and it has rendered the land uninhabitable.

AMY GOODMAN: Keep going. What else?

HILTON KELLEY: And so, with that being said, many of our people are being displaced. I mean, there's a lot of danger when you live in a situation like this. And also, we're dealing with a situation with our elderly, in our community and in other communities around Port Arthur, Texas, where many people's homes that were flooded, these folks were right at their 30-year mortgage payment, where they was about to be done with that. And now they're having to start over because FEMA is offering them a loan instead of some kind of grant opportunity. And basically, most of the people in Port Arthur has been abandoned by FEMA. The Red Cross has reached its limit. And many people were in lines trying to get their $400 check, and now that's gone. I mean, I've gotten thousands of phone calls and emails saying that "We need help now," to this day. And the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey is just starting to show its ugly head.

AMY GOODMAN: How many Superfund sites, how many refineries are there in Port Arthur?

HILTON KELLEY: Well, I think we have somewhere around 15 to 16 Superfund sites in Port Arthur. And Port Arthur is—

AMY GOODMAN: These are toxic sites.

HILTON KELLEY: These are toxic sites, land that you cannot build on anymore, and even some waterfronts.

AMY GOODMAN: That flooded.

HILTON KELLEY: Yes. And so, when you have a Superfund site that's already contaminated, and then it's exacerbated by a hurricane, what you have is debris or material that may spill into the communities and get into the floodwaters. And as you walk through those floodwaters, of course, you're being contaminated with petroleum products, as well.

AMY GOODMAN: Explain what happened in Valero. I mean, we were showing your own video of what took place there.

HILTON KELLEY: Right.

AMY GOODMAN: And what is Valero?

HILTON KELLEY: Well, Valero is an oil refinery located right in the historic African-American community. And what happened that particular day, from my understanding, is that there was some kind of a spark that ignited this fuel storage tank. It's what you're watching burning. And the fuel storage tank exploded. I mean, when it exploded, it rattled windows for about a mile. My brother lives within a quarter of a mile from that facility, and he called me immediately. He said, "Man, I believe one of the plants just exploded." And so I rushed to the scene, and, of course, I pulled out my camera and started to film and take photos of the incident.

But yet, this is—a storage tank exploding is somewhat uncommon in our area, but there are constant emissions due to shutdowns and startup emissions, and also due to incidents that take place whenever they lose power. We see a lot of black smoke. We see fire at night, all through the night sometimes, 14-hour burns, or two- or three-day burns at the Motiva plant. Or if it's not the Motiva plant, it's the Chevron chemical.

AMY GOODMAN: This is the largest plant in the United States?

HILTON KELLEY: Yes, Motiva oil refinery is the largest oil refinery in the Northern Hemisphere. These guys put out 625,000 barrels of oil per day. So, on any given day, we're going to get our daily dose of sulfur dioxide, sulfuric acid, 1,3-butadiene, which is a known carcinogen. And we have a disproportionate number of people in Port Arthur that are suffering with cancer, that are suffering with respiratory issues.

AMY GOODMAN: This is plant run by Saudi Arabia?

HILTON KELLEY: Yes, this is 100 percent Saudi-owned. And we want to encourage the Saudi prince, the Saudi to come to Port Arthur and visit with the people that are living on that fenceline, that are living at or below the poverty line, and answer the question: Why aren't they doing more to assist this community in its time of need? And why aren't they doing more to assist the people any time in that particular community that have to bear the brunt of them making billions of dollars annually?

AMERICAN BOMBS ARE KILLING YEMENI CHILDREN

"What Amnesty found is that the weapon that was used in that attack was a U.S. laser-guided bomb. We found that out with collaboration with a local Yemeni journalist who took pictures of the site, took pictures of remains of bomb parts, shrapnel, other parts that that journalist found and sent it to our teams. Our experts looked into these photos and determined that some of these parts are definitely linked to U.S.-made laser-guided bombs."
A major new investigation by Amnesty International reveals a bomb that killed 16 civilians in Yemen's capital last month was made in the U.S.A.

AUNG SAN SUU KYI IS LYING ABOUT THE ROHINGYA PEOPLE

AUNG SAN SUU KYI: All people living in the Rakhine state have access to education and healthcare services without discrimination. Healthcare services are being provided throughout the state, including hard-to-reach areas with new mobile clinics. The government has upgraded 300 schools in Rakhine. The vocational and technical training programs have begun. Muslim students also have access to higher education without any discrimination.
AMY GOODMAN: Aung San Suu Kyi also addressed criticism that the Rohingya are not granted Burmese citizenship.
AUNG SAN SUU KYI: With regard to citizenship, a strategy with a specific timeline has been developed to move forward the national verification process. But this is a process which needs cooperation from all communities. In some Muslim communities, their leaders have decided that they are not to join in the verification process. We would appreciate it if all friends could persuade them to join in the process, because they have nothing to lose by it.
AMY GOODMAN: Azeem Ibrahim, could you explain this verification process, but also talk about the significance of Aung San Suu Kyi? A number of Nobel Peace Prize winners have called for her peace prize to be revoked.
AZEEM IBRAHIM: Well, Aung San Suu Kyi has simply evolved from a peace campaigner into a full-time politician now. And she has simply made a political calculation that the issue of the Rohingya is simply not worth utilizing any political capital over. There is simply no point in her alienating the military or the extreme British clergy. She has went through immense sacrifice and immense struggle to get to where she is. This is her life's work, to become leader of our country, and she's not willing to give that up for the human rights of this minority group.
But the clip that you just played, in terms of, you know, the Rohingya having access to healthcare, education and a verification process for citizenship, all of those are patently false. I have visited those camps myself. The Rohingya are confined to these massive, huge concentration camps in which they are restricted. They have restriction on freedom of movement, restriction on having children, on getting married, to access to education. This idea that they have access to healthcare is just totally untrue. You know, I've seen, myself, that there's approximately one doctor to about 80,000 people in those camps. And there's almost—the literacy rate amongst the children is about 3 percent that attend school.
And this verification process that she actually refers to is from 1993, and it is so complex and absurd, in that every Rohingya has to demonstrate—that has crossed the border into Bangladesh, has to produce papers as to where they crossed the border, from the Bangladeshi authorities, which they obviously can't, as refugees. Then they have to demonstrate where they've actually lived in Myanmar, which they can't, because they've all been burnt down, all their houses. And then they have to demonstrate their family history with identity cards, which were never issued.
So this is essentially just a process in terms of trying to pacify the international community. It's very telling that her speech was actually made in English, and on many Myanmar channels, it wasn't even translated. This was an attempt simply to try to pacify the international community and try to delay—this was a delaying tactic from her behalf, until the military actually finishes all its operations. And it is deeply unfortunate that she has simply now become a shield for this military action.
